10 Ideas for Halal Minced Meat Meals

We know Bolognese. Lasagne. Shepherd’s Pie. But here are some other ways to use minced meat from around the world. Bulk-buying halal mince is a great way to produce meals in big dishes that last longer. There are also ideas for using up left over meat if there isn’t enough to make a keema to feed the whole gang!

1. Japanese Ramen Ramen

Delicious Japanese broth. Shining from a big, dark bowl. Steam rising with the fragrance of pickled ginger. Pinks, greens, the sparkle of sesame seeds. Use halal beef mince, vegetable stock and ramen noodles easily purchasable from big supermarkets.

2. Korean Beef Bowls

This really is the quickest and easiest of all. Halal minced beef with garlic, ginger, soy, carrots and spring onions, served with white rice and toasted sesame seeds. Include some bright red chilis if you can handle the heat.

3. Greek Keftedes

Greek meatballs are simple, and the flavour of oregano and classic accompaniments of yoghurt, pitta bread and chunky cucumber, tomato and olive salad makes them distinctive and super-healthy. It’s typical in many parts of the Mediterranean to make meatballs with both beef and lamb together, but either works brilliantly alone.

4. Chilean Pastel de Papa

Why not try the Chilean “pastel de papa”, a Latin version of the cottage pie, with raisins, hard-boiled eggs and black olives? Add newly boiled eggs if you serve over the course of a few days. Make it in a big dish, and this meal will feed you again and again.

5. Burgers with Kimchi

Kimchi is a Korean staple side dish made from salted and fermented veg. We make beef burgers here at Haloodies, but if you fancy fashioning your own, use our 100% halal minced beef and make or buy your own kimchi to bring it to life. Take some more inspiration from our Korean blog page.

6. Laotian Larb

Larb is the classic meat salad of Laos and the northern Thai provinces, typically served with sticky rice. Fill gem lettuce leaves with halal minced beef, flavoured with fish sauce, lime, coriander, ginger and sweet chili. (There are a number of veg that can be vessels for minced meat with different world flavours, from aubergines and courgettes to beef tomatoes and onions. A great way to use up small amounts of minced meat.)

7. Turkish Pide

This Turkish-style pizza is made with beef mince, spinach and feta. Serve with a chunky green salad for a vitamin-filled, tasty lunch or dinner. The sumac brings this to life, along with fresh mint and yoghurt. Throw on some toasted pine nuts for extra bite.

8. Mousakka

There are many regional variations of this dish, which can be eaten hot or cold. The top layer can be made with yoghurt or raw eggs. With lashings of garlic, oregano and tomato, this is a delicious alternative to a lasagna, to which you can add peas or pulses, and serve with fibrous grains.

9. Chili con Carne with Pomegranate Guacamole

Chili is an oldie but a goodie! We’ve suggested pomegranate guacamole here (avocado, lime, salt, and pepper, bejeweled with pomegranate seeds), but there are many twists on the classic. Rich in different types of tinned beans, tinned tomatoes and colourful peppers, this is a vitamin- and protein-packed meal. Make a big batch, heat up for lunch or dinner, and throw on the bright green leaves of fresh coriander and serve in tacos or with potatoes or rice.
